On October 4, 1983, Charles Kruse took-off with his wife Carolyn Kruse and son Charles Jr. They were on return trip to Fort Pierce, Florida, from Andros Town, Andros Island. At 8:49 a.m., forty-four minutes after takeoff, he reported to Miami that he was 60 miles east of Fort Lauderdale, in heavy rain. How was he to get around it? he asked. Miami told him to work his way to the Florida coast where it was clear, then fly north to Fort Pierce. He rogered. Radar noted that Kruse’s Cessna Centurion then turned west and headed for Florida. At the same time he descended to 4,300 feet altitude. At 8:51 a.m. he was at 2,800 feet altitude where he suddenly vanished. There was no ELT alarm received at base. The Coast Guard and US Navy search was immediate, but found no trace.
