Marsh Harbour, Great Abaco Island, is a popular destination in the Bahamas. It was from here, on return trip, that Fred and Gloria Andrews took off on September 28, 1982, at 9:15 a.m, heading back to Fort Pierce, Florida.
Most of the route is visual of Grand Bahama. Then from there across the Gulf Stream to the Florida coast. After passing the last landmark on Grand Bahama, he headed northwest for Fort Pierce.
Miami was tracking the airplane’s transponder code. At 10:53 a.m. the signal suddenly stopped. The search was discontinued until the 7th of October, and found no trace.
Weather was fair: 2,000 feet scattered, 2,500 feet broken, overcast at 10,000; visibility 10 miles, light rain in some areas, temp. 77 degrees, wind 100o at 6 knots.
