Some disappearances are proceeded by radio contact indicating power loss.
For instance, at 8:21 a.m. on May 2, 1996, Aero 500 N50GV took off from St. Croix for Dominica with pilot, Ian Pringle, and passengers Jacque Hurtault and Reggie Bruney. Right behind Pringle was N95HM, traveling the same route.
Only 5 minutes after takeoff, Pringle reported to N95HM that he had generator problems. He would monitor them. Michael Nissen (N95HM) obliged Pringle by canceling his VFR flight plan for him. He continued on to Dominica.
When 1 and 1/2 hours overdue, ramp checks and telephone calls uncovered no clue to N50GV. An immediate search found nothing.
