A New East— The Contra Costa Corridor In 1978 the EAR struck his furthest afield yet— the eastern area of the San Francisco Bay Area. But unlike with Modesto (the farthest he had struck to this point) his strikes here would not merely be kibbitzing out of Sacramento. He was gone. He had, so it seemed, moved on from Sacramento County but continued his crime spree. It came at a curious juncture. It came after the police composite of the 2 men seen fleeing the Maggiore double murder were given wide circulation. Is there a connection? Was he finally unmasked and we didn’t know it?
