Delays in getting the money prolonged the time Flight 305 had to remain in the holding pattern near Seattle. Over the speaker, Captain Scott assured the passengers the delay was caused by the airport. In truth, Northwest was tapping several banks. The ransom would be ten thousand $20 dollar bills.
Another delay was caused when Cooper learned that the airline was securing military parachutes from McCord AFB. He demanded civilian parachutes instead.
All other demands were agreed to. Upon landing, the airliner would park far out on the runway. No one would approach except with the parachutes and money satchel. Refueling would be allowed by truck.
Things had gone so smoothly for the calm skyjacker, the passengers still didn’t know a hijacking was in progress. He ordered another bourbon and water.
